Rising global temperatures, accelerating faster than climate models had previously warned us, will hasten the melting of polar and glacial ice - raising sea levels and threatening coastal cities. Despite the valiant efforts of Vancouverites to create a bright, green future and ‘ecodensify’ our low-density neighbourhoods, it may be too late or too far out of our hands. Lack of concern from international leaders, including Canada’s own, threaten the future existence of our homes. Our near future holds the potential of peril - a rapidly changing environment testing the resiliency of the otherwise undefeatable Vancouver Special. By 2012, we fear our cherished white christmas will be replaced by the ultimate wet christmas, mixing holiday cheer with the challenge of adapting to a new climate, a new world, and a new housing typology - the Floating Special.
